The questions that prevent regret
A sofa bed has to work in two different situations, and almost nobody thinks about the second one until the first guest arrives.

How many nights a year it will be used
A mattress for two nights at Christmas is not the same as one for a relative who visits every month. The thickness and type change completely.

Who is going to sleep on it
A larger adult needs a different mechanism and a different base than a child does. Say so openly and we will get it right sooner.

How much floor space is left when open
Measure the gap in front of the sofa with the bed unfolded, not just the space it takes closed. That is the most common mistake.

Who is going to open it
Some mechanisms open with one hand and some take real effort. If the same person will always open it, they should be the one to try it in the shop.
If you are not convinced
- Chaise longue sofas
- Some have storage inside: no bed, but they solve storage without giving up depth.
- Two and three seaters
- If guests are rare, a normal sofa and a folding bed may make more sense.
- Mattresses and beds
- If whoever sleeps there does it often, what you may actually need is a proper bed.
Open it in the shop before buying
It is what we recommend most and what almost nobody does. Opening and closing the mechanism twice tells you more than any spec sheet: whether it catches, whether it is heavy, whether you have to take the cushions off every time.
Made to measure, like everything else
Spanish manufacturing, so size, configuration and upholstery are adjusted. And it can be repaired years later, which matters even more on furniture with a mechanism.
Questions we get asked in the shop
It depends on the mattress, and there the differences are large. For occasional use almost any will do; if someone will sleep there several nights a month, it is worth moving up in mattress and base. We will tell you honestly what to expect from each.
More than people estimate. Bring the measurement of the clear space in front of the sofa and we will check it against the model opened out in the shop.
On some models yes, on others no. That is exactly the kind of detail that decides whether a sofa bed ends up being used.
Some models have it. Ask when you choose, because not all of them do.
